That the game “My Life”, in its journey through various European cities, would have to stop in Livorno, in the headquarters of the Associazione Liberi Autori (ALA), was almost a given. Already before ALA’s constitution, a cultural Association for the diffusion of reading and writing, press, distribution and valorization of the works of its associatias, born between 2015 and 2016, Grazia Charini and Marco Rodi had had a chance to meet, during the program for territorial representatives and the seminars organized by the Libera Università dell’Autobiografia of Anghiari.
They have been friends since then, and have also started collaborating in the field of writing. Together, albeit their respective uniqueness, they have organized autobiographical-writing meetings both in Santa Croce sull’Arno’s library and in Livorno’s ALA headquarters which, during the time of the pandemic, have turned into weekly online meetings. In this journey, they were able to form a very motivated and active group, although initially online. Thus, on Friday, April 8th 2022 the writers from Livorno, coordinated by Prof. Marco Rodi, founder and past president of ALA, gathered, in person, in the first meeting to experiment with the paper version of the “My Life” game. A brief opinion survey has concluded that the participants were very intrigued by the “My Life” game, both because of the cards’ black and white design and because of the words which, together with the pictures, have been chosen as narrative stimuli. In said occasion they used another version of the printed game, as a demonstration of its great versatility, being that of distributing the cards randomly, without following a pre-established order. This way, each player had the possibility to write freely about themselves based on the stimulus that fate assigned them. The online game session is expected to be held soon.
